From May 1 to June 14, colleagues from the Associated Women’s Network (AWN) collected donations of professional attire such as suits, maternity wear and accessories for the nonprofit Dress for Success, supporting low-income women on their road to self-sufficiency. AWN capped off the initiative June 21 with a volunteer event, serving as "image" coaches and mock interviewers for Dress for Success clientele.
“We appreciated and enjoyed the opportunity to help support women in our community who are looking for jobs but can’t afford the right wardrobe,” said Sarah McCarty, tri-chair of the AWN Leadership Team and SVP, Director of Sales Enablement at Associated Benefits and Risk Consulting. “The response this year from our colleagues exceeded expectations. The work we did supports the missions of Dress for Success as well as AWN.”
As part of the June 21 event, Associated volunteers, through Dress for Success, assisted participants in the Shakopee Women's Prison Challenge Incarceration Program (CIP) in preparing for a successful release. Designed to help nonviolent offenders transition back into the community and work environment, CIP program participants work with Dress for Success several weeks prior to their release for assistance with professional clothing and the opportunity to participate in mock interviews. Volunteers from Associated served as image coaches functioning as personal shoppers, and mock interviewers providing feedback to the women about their interviewing skills. Several volunteers also provided some much needed assistance beautifying the Dress for Success boutique.
Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. The AWN was created to support the advancement of women in our organization. By providing this support, we help foster the greatest potential of all women within the organization while building a strong pipeline of talented women leaders for Associated.
